Before you tint your car in Florida, know the legal limits. Here's a clear breakdown of Florida's window tint laws for front, back, and rear windows.
Florida's sun makes window tint almost essential, but the state has specific laws about how dark you can go. Knowing the rules before you tint keeps you legal and avoids a fix-it ticket down the road.
Florida measures tint darkness by Visible Light Transmission (VLT) — the percentage of light allowed through the film and glass combined. The lower the VLT, the darker the tint.
Here are the key Florida limits: front side windows must allow more than 28% of light in. Back side windows and the rear window must allow more than 15% of light in. The windshield can only have a non-reflective tint above the AS-1 line (the small marking near the top of most windshields), usually the top few inches.
Florida also restricts how reflective the tint can be. Front and back side windows can't be more than 25% and 35% reflective respectively, and red and amber tint colors are not permitted.
